Tyre dressings are ten a penny, and we’ve already covered the pretty amazing instant tyre dressing from Autoglym. In this review, we’ll be taking a look at Autoglyms High Performance Tyre Gel.

How To Use High Performance Tyre Gel

As is the case with any other dressing, it’s really important that the tyres are clean and dry.

When it comes to applying this dressing, it has to be applied by some form of applicator pad. I’ve collated a list of the best applicators here. Any applicator will work, but I’d recommend a high quality one such as Autoglyms own offering.

Personally, I like a natural look when it comes to dressing tyres. As such, only a small amount of needed on the applicator pad. For those that prefer a glossy look, more of the gel can be applied to the applicator. If too much is applied, the excess residue can be removed using a microfibre cloth. For those wanting a natural look, two small blobs of the gel per tyre is more than adequate.

I found it extremely easy to apply. I’ve used some tyre dressings that make a big mess in a gel form with the way they spread out. Thankfully this isn’t the case with this dressing. It generally takes about 15 minutes all in to work in the gel to 4 tyres and then remove any residue. This is where Instant Tyre Dressing shines since it can be quickly applied to a wet tyre sidewall with a pad and then left to dry. Fr Instant Tyre Dressing, I can do 4 tyres in just under 5 minutes.

Durability

The durability is always a tough one to assess. It’s based on the how many miles are driven in a week, the conditions that the car is driven in, as well as what products are used to clean the tyres.

On 100 miles a week, I’ve been able to get on average two and a half weeks off of this dressing before I need to reapply it. In that respect, it’s a bit more durable than Instant Tyre Dressing.

When the extreme snow was here, I got 10 days out of the dressing. This undoubtedly would have been caused by the large amount of salt and grit on the roads.

As a test, I used Custom Wheel Cleaner on the sidewall of the tyre. This only caused a minor level of degradation to the dressing. However, since it does add a large degree of protection to the sidewall of the tyre, and therefore repel dirt, there isn’t as much need to use a dedicated cleaner to clean the sidewalls of the tyre. In fact, even using a normal car shampoo would be enough for it.

Value for Money

With it being a tad more expensive than Instant Tyre Dressing, the question is, does it still offer good value for money? I would say it does. The fact that it lasts longer, it means you’ll be getting more out of the bottle than you would with other products.

Added to this is the fact that has silicone in it. The purpose of the silicone is to boost its longevity. It also serves to prevent the dressing from slinging onto the bodywork. This is something that can be pretty problematic with other gel based dressings. Having a white car, I know all too well how awful it can look when there is dressing sling on the car. I can happily say that after repeated applications, I’ve never experienced this sling onto my car.  For that alone, it makes it well worth the money.
