Ceramic car shampoos are a great option for those that want to add ceramic protection to their car whilst washing it. These can be a great way to top up pre-existing protection that is on the car, as well as adding protection to cars with “bare” paint.
To that end, I’ve tried several ceramic shampoos so that you can make an informed decision on which one you should purchase. Due to the chemical nature of ceramic shampoos, they are a bit more expensive than normal car shampoos and as such, it’s important to know which one’s actually live up to the hype, and price point.
These products were testing across the same car using the ceramic shampoo initially, and then using Autoglym Foaming Car Shampoo thereafter. This was to gauge how long the ceramic protection would last per shampoo, without topping it up after every wash.
Gtechniq Ceramic GWash W3
Gtechniq have taken their excellent GWash and infused it with ceramic properties. Much like the original GWash, Ceramic GWash W3 offers excellent cleaning abilities. This is a low foam/suds formula, but it is extremely slick. This means that the wash mitt will glide over the paintwork, and there’s no fear of inflicting scratches or swirls on it.
It is one of the slickest shampoos that I’ve used. It was able to quickly and safely cut through road grime with ease. The lack of suds did concern me at first, but as soon as you apply it to the car, you know the low suds is not an issue.
Gtechniq have the claim of getting up to 3 months protection when using this. During my testing process, I’ve found that I’ve had between 2 to 2.5 months of protection before I noticed it dropping off dramatically. Dirt didn’t want to stick to the car after applying this, which made subsequent cleans a lto easier. This is very impressive considering that this is a modestly priced car shampoo and ceramic coating rolled into one. At 20ml per 10 litres of water, the 500ml bottle should last you 25 weeks, if you wash your car once per week.
I also found it to be a great way to top up pre-existing Gtechniq protection that was on the car.

TurtleWax Ceramic Wash and Wax
I’ve previously covered this shampoo from TurtleWax as part of my best car shampoo list. As mentioned there, it’s a great product, albeit it a low foaming one. It does have the odd way applying it compared to other car shampoos. You need to wash a panel at a time and then rinse it off right away. This is opposed to washing the entire car and then rinsing it off afterwards.
Regardless, it works extremely well at applying hydrophobic protection to the car. It also gives a deep clean to the paintwork.
This is a great option to use on bare paint without protection on it, with me getting 2 months protection on average. However, it is also a great way to top up the pre-existing Turtle Wax protection that is already on the car, such as their Ceramic Spray.
At roughly the same price as the Ceramic GWash W3, I would choose this one if you already have Turtle Wax products on the car.
- Super-Slick Formula - Ceramic Wash & Wax formula breaks up road grime, soil, and other residues without scratching your finish. Simply wash on and rinse off for a long-lasting shine

Autobrite Ceramic Shampoo
The lowest priced option on this list comes from the team at Autobrite. I was really impressed with how well this shampoo cleaned the car; as with the others on the list, it cut through the dirt on the car with ease.
The Autobrite shampoo also foamed up more than the others on this list. However, I still found it to be very slick on the paintwork and provided a high level of lubrication when cleaning the car.
I also like that if there is no protection on the car, this shampoo can be added directly to a damp wash mitt, and then used to clean the car that way. This will increase the hydrophobic properties of the shampoo.
If you already have protection with the car, 3 squirts from the bottle into 10 litres of water was more than enough to bring about an excellent clean.
I’ve found the protection to last for a month when using it on a car without wax on it. However, much like the other shampoos on this list, if you used it weekly, it’ll build up the protection on the car.
The car was really easy to clean after using this shampoo, and for such a low price point, it’s highly recommended. As an added bonus, it really smells good which added to the overall experience for me. I was really happy using Autobrite Ceramic Shampoo, and would definitely use it again to top up the protection on my car.
