Ultra High Definition (UHD) Shampoo is the third shampoo offered by Autoglym that is designed to be used in a bucket. Priced at the higher end of the market when compared to Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner and Pure Shampoo, who is UHD Shampoo for?
Shampoo Quality
Don’t get me wrong, Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner and Pure Shampoo are fantastic at cleaning cars at a modest price point. They are both great at removing road grime and debris, and neither of them cause degradation to the paintwork. However, UHD Shampoo is on a completely different level. UHD Shampoo is the foamiest, thickest and slickest shampoo in the Autoglym range. The levels of suds that it generates is immense.
I also checked to see how long the suds last for in a bucket. It always happens that I’ll start washing the car and a neighbour will start chatting to me. In the past, cheaper shampoos will quickly fade away in the bucket. This isn’t the case with UHD Shampoo. After chatting for what would have been at least an hour, the suds in the bucket were still plentiful. This is promising and it shows that this a high quality shampoo that has excellent surfactants in it which will not diminish rapidly. The result of this is that you’re guaranteed a great wash every time you use it.
Value for Money
Now, Autoglym recommend for every 10 litres of water that you use 4 cap fulls of shampoo. If the car is really dirty and has been prewashed, I’d still normally give it 4 caps worth. This is especially true in the winter when I really want to make sure that there is more than enough lubrication there to safely remove road dirt and grime.
However, in the summer months, I’ve found that 2 caps of the shampoo are more than enough to give a thorough clean. It should be noted though that this in conjunction with a high quality wax on the car, such as UHD Wax. If you used the recommended dilution ratio of 4 cap fulls (40ml) per 10 litres of water and you washed your car every week, you should expect the shampoo to last for 25 weeks. If you used 2 cap fulls instead (20ml) per 10 litres of water, then you should expect the shampoo to last for 50, presuming it was washed once per week.
The Results
The results when using UHD Shampoo are fantastic. It leaves the car looking immaculate, which is exactly what you want! The benefit of using UHD Shampoo with cars which have been coated with UHD Wax, it will not cause any degradation to the wax layer. Some shampoos will caused degradation to waxes, but this isn’t he case with UHD Shampoo. It is pH neutral, and is a soft, but effective shampoo. It isn’t just UHD Wax that this car shampoo can be used with, but I’m always a fan of keeping the same product line in use (where possible) when it comes to shampoo and wax so they can complement each other .
It lifts the dirt effortlessly and for those that have black glossy alloy wheels and are worried about installing scratches and swirls in them, UHD Shampoo could be a great wheel shampoo. If used on the wheels, I would also suggest using it in addition to Autoglym Magma to really ensure that any iron contamination is fully removed.

It’s actually a demonstration of the hydrophobic properties of UHD Wax, but as the car was washed with UHD Shampoo prior to the test being carried out and it does look amazing. The UHD Wax doesn’t have any cleansers in it, so the immaculate white finish is all due to the cleaning abilities of the UHD Shampoo.
UHD Shampoo is one of the best shampoos on the market, regardless if the car has a wax, sealant or ceramic coating on it. It provides awesome cleaning power at a low price point and suds that don’t die down even after a long time (1+ hour) in the bucket.
It is possible to buy the shampoo on it’s own. If you don’t have the UHD Wax and its something you’d be interested in, then it is usually more cost effective to buy the UHD Shampoo and Wax kit, but I’ve linked both down below for your convenience.
