Autoglym Polar Wash is part of their Polar series, and sits in the middle of the process. This is to be used after Polar Blast, and before Polar Seal.

It is a car shampoo that is specifically designed to be used via a snow foam lance due to the way it creates the foam to clean the car. I’ve been using this for several months now in order to gauge the pros and cons of it.

How To Use Autoglym Polar Wash

As mentioned above, Polar Wash has been designed to be used through a snow foam lance. As per the instructions from Autoglym, I used a 50/50 mix in my snow foam lance. I opted for 200ml of product and 200ml of water in their Polar Blaster and was able to get great coverage all over the car.

After this, it’s as simple as agitating the foam on the car using your wash mitt of choice. As is the case with cleaning the car using any kind of shampoo, you should always work from the top down. In addition to this, you should also rinse the washmitt periodically to ensure that you don’t scratch or marr the paint work.

I was really impressed with how well the Polar Wash cleaned the car.  It left it looking incredibly clean.  Initially, it felt a bit strange using the what effectively has the same appearance as snow foam to clean the car. It should be noted though that it isn’t like using snow foam. Snow foam shouldn’t be agitated due to the surfactants in it.

When using Polar Wash, it was very quick to get around the entire car to clean it. I feel that in winter months especially, this would be a great way to quickly clean the car when it’s cold. Of course, the benefit here is that you don’t need to continuous dunk your hand into buckets. To take things one step further, you could have several mitts so that once you’ve used one a few times, you don’t rinse it out. Instead, you would move onto a clean one. This way, it would ensure that you won’t cause any damage to the paint work, and your hands won’t get cold, either.

Another thing I really liked about Polar Wash is that it had a long dwell time on the car. After spraying it on, it didn’t run off quickly. The benefit of this is that you don’t end up wasting any product (and therefore money). There is also the argument is well is that because it has a long dwell time, it will also help to break down the dirt that the pre-wash may not have removed.

A key selling point for this is that it also means that you won’t miss a spot of the car either. Since the car will be blanketed in the shampoo, you’ll be able to see where you’ve used the mitt and where you haven’t missed it. This saves any embarrassment for having missed a spot, and ruining an otherwise perfect finish.

Value For Money

At the time of writing, a bottle of Polar Wash will cost you £16, which is modestly priced. For that, you get a 2.5 litre bottle of product. If you use a 50/50 mix each time, and each application uses 200ml of product, you’ll get 12 washes out of it.

This might not seem like a lot on the face of it, but you also need to factor in how quickly it lets you wash the car. I was able to clean mine, thoroughly in under 10 minutes. In the winter months especially, this is a huge benefit. This would successfully see you through the winter period when you want an excellent clean, but you want to do it in as short a time as possible.

For that reason, it’s well worth the asking price.
