Polar Blast is Autoglym’s version of a highly powerful snow foam.

During my weeks of testing it, I haven’t actually used a pressure washer for it. Instead, I have used the excellent IK Foam Pro 2 instead. You can read more about that, here.

Pressure Washer or Foam Sprayer with Polar Blast?

When it comes to using Polar Blast, it is important to follow Autoglym’s dilution recommendations i.e. a starting point of 100ml of Polar Blast to 500ml of water.

One thing that a lot of people have pointed out is that you really need to have a snow lance for this if you’re using a pressure washer, and not to use the detergent tank on the pressure washer.

There are a lot of snow lance attachments available online, including one that Autoglym makes for the Polar series range. As a handy bonus, on it has dilution markings on the bottle depending on what Polar series product is being used. The Polar Blaster also comes with a fitting that will fit all of the Karcher K series of pressure washers. If you have a different brand, then a different attachment will need to be processed.

As mentioned above, I instead opted to use the IK Foam Pro 2. When doing so, I altered the dilution rate pretty significantly. I used 1 litre of lukewarm water in addition to 35 ml of Polar Blast and gently inverted the bottle. After 30 pumps of the foamer, this was sufficient enough to provide a thick snow foam from the IK Pro 2.

Results

After having seen others use Polar Blast through a pressure washer, the results have been excellent. It produces a thick, creamy snow foam that really does help to lift a lot of dirt off of the paint work before a contact wash has started.

It would be unfair to make a direct comparison between using a pressure washer and using a foam sprayer. Having said that, the foam produced is still great. Not only did it produce a nice foam, it also helped to drag a lot of dirt off of the car. It should be noted though that how much dirt it is able to removed is based on how dirty the car is, as well as how long the dirt has been left to “set” on the car for. Personally, I felt that after using the Polar Blast that I was at a much lower risk of inflicting scratches and swirls on the paint work. I also use this as a pre-wash on my wheels. A video of this can be found on YouTube.

Moreover, it is also pH neutral. The benefit of this is that it will not degrade any waxes or sealants that you have on your car. After using this on my car, I could not see any reduction in the water beading and sheeting of the wax that I had applied to the paint. The wax in question is Autoglym’s UHD Wax.

Value For Money

Based on Autoglyms dilution rate, one bottle of Polar Blast should last for 25 washes. Presuming you wash your car every two weeks then you’re looking at just under a year that this bottle will last for.

However, based on using the IK Foam Pro 2 instead at a dilution rate of 35ml, it should last for 71 washes instead.

This makes it one of the more affordable snow foams on the market. Whilst it is adding an extra step to your wash routine and therefore an additional cost, it is another step to help maintain a flawless finish. In that regard, it’s definitely worth it.
