Ceramic Wash & Protect is the latest car shampoo from the team at Autoglym. It’s the next step in car shampoos that also offer a ceramic protection. In this review, I’ll be looking at how well it performs, and if you should add it to your detailing repertoire.

How To Use

Autoglym Ceramic Wash & Protect, like all Autoglym products is very easy to use. For the optimum cleaning, you only need to use 30ml of product (equal to 3 capfuls) in a bucket and then add 10 litres of water.

Due to this being a low foaming shampoo (similar to Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner), I would always recommend giving the car a thorough rinse first. After filling up the bucket, it’s just the case of carrying out the normal two bucket method wash.

When carrying out my testing on this, I found it very easy to rinse off after using it. One thing I would like to point out, that Autoglym also recommends, is that if any of this gets on the windscreen, it should be cleaned off afterwards with Fast Glass. The reason for this is that it can cause windscreen juddering due to the ceramic nature of it.  Using Fast Glass would be sufficient enough to prevent this from occurring.

Another thing I’d recommend is that on rather hot days, if you’re using this, after you’ve cleaned a panel, rinse it off afterwards. This would be to prevent it from drying in on the paintwork.

Results

As part of the testing, I initially did a 50/50 on the car. The car had been fully decontaminated and all wax from it was removed. After applying the Ceramic Wash & Protect, I was blown away with how much it beaded up when rinsing it off.

The difference between the side that had been cleaned with this shampoo, and the side that had been cleaned with Foaming Car Wash, with respect to water beading, was night and day. The Foaming Car Wash side, as expected, did not result in any water beading.

Aside from the hydrophobic properties of the shampoo, Ceramic Wash & Protect performed an excellent clean on the car. It left it looking absolutely spotless and also added a great degree of gloss to the paint work as well.  The comments I had from neighbours afterwards about how great it made the car look should speak volumes.

I’ve found that the beading lasts for a few weeks. Of course, your durability will depend on how many miles you’re doing each week. I’ve also found that this is a great way to “lock in” any protection that you’ve already got on the car. I’ve used this on top of both UHD Wax and also Rapid Ceramic Spray, and it does help to boost their longevity.

Similarly, using this every week in lieu of another protection product will help to build up a hydrophobic layer on the paintwork.

Value For Money

At the time of writing, a bottle of Ceramic Wash & Protect is on sale for just under £25. This is a considered purchase, especially when you factor in that it’s a 1 litre bottle. At the dilution ratio that Autoglym recommends, you’ll get 33 washes from it.

At that rate, it would cost you 76p to wash your car every time with this. This may seem expensive. However, when you factor in that you’re also protecting the car each time you wash it, thereby saving you time overall this does take the sting out of the price.

For those that are short of time, this offers amazing value for money. Regardless of your time constraints though, it offers a great way to quickly clean your car safely and not need to worry about other protection products being added onto it.
