Choosing a hose spray gun might seem like a trivial matter, but not all hose spray guns are created equal. Indeed, it’s important when it comes to cleaning the car that you’ve got a high quality hose spray gun to ensure that you can remove all of the product you’ve applied to the car.
When looking online, there are a lot of these spray guns available, a lot of which are a bit so so. After extensive testing, I’ve whittled down the list to three, all of which I’ve personally tested.

Karcher Premium Spray Gun
Karcher are well known for their high quality pressure washers, both domestic and commercial. What isn’t as well known though is the fact that they also make garden hoses and spray guns.
Their premium spray gun is an excellent, lightweight and also durable option. Unlike the other sprays guns on the market, it doesn’t have a large head to spin around to get different spray patterns. Instead, the end of the nozzle is used to adjust the spray pattern from a wide fan, all the way down to a concentrated beam of water.
Regardless of the option that you’re using to rinse down the car, the water flow is excellent. I particularly like using the wide fan mode to give the car a quick run over if it’s just a bit dusty. When it’s well protected, the dust rolls right off of it.
During my testing, I did drop it a few times (once on purpose, and the others unintentionally) and even after dropping it on the driveway, it’s still holding up well.
Another great feature is the fact that you can lock the trigger in place, so that you don’t need to hold down the trigger for prolonged periods of time. This is particularly useful when you’re rinsing off the entire car, especially if it’s rather large. It means that there’s no hand fatigue, which is a real bonus. It connects into any click system, and for those that don’t have an aqua stop connector on their hose, Karcher also provide these an optional extra which means you can connect and disconnect the spray gun with ease.

Hozelock Multi Plus Spray Gun
For those that prefer a myriad of different spray patterns, Hozelock provide just the spray gun. The body of the unit is made of metal, which is ideal considering that it can be prone to dropping. For added peace of mind, the gun has also been powercoated, and my first reaction to this is that it makes it sound like alloy wheels!
The gun is well made, and it feels sturdy in the hand. As is the case with the Karcher spray gun above, there is a lock for the trigger. I found this to be high quality, and again, really useful when rinsing off the entire car.
In terms of the spray patters available with the Hozelock, there are 8 all in. This includes a shower function as well as jet spray for cleaning the car. There is also a flat function as well which fans the water out with a lot of pressure that makes it great for removing shampoo from the car.
For those that are also keen gardeners, there is also a cone option to lightly water plants and the lawn.
It’s a tad more expensive than the Karcher, but if you’re going to be working on the garden as well and would like more spray options, it’s definitely worth it.

X Hose Spray Gun
The last spray gun on the list is actually the first one I ever bought. It’s also the cheapest on the list, but it isn’t bad at all. Mines finally stopped working after 8 solid years of use, and it was after it stopped working that it prompted me to look at different models and make this list.
The X Hose Spray Gun is completely made of plastic and rubber, and like the other two on this list, it will survive multiple drops. Also, much like the Hozelock, it has 8 different spray patterns so you can use it for the car, as well as watering plants as well. The pressure is really great on it as well depending on the pattern you’ve chosen, which is why I never felt the need to buy an alternative whilst this still worked.
One downside though is that there isn’t a dedicated trigger lock compared to the other two spray guns. However, it does have an adjustable knob at the end of the trigger that you can tighten up that will push down the trigger continuously. It’s not as user friendly in that regard when compared to a simple lock, but it is also half the price of the Hozelock version listed above.
For those on a budget that want a high quality hose spray gun, but don’t want to spend a lot of money on it, the X Hose variant is the one you’re looking for. Oh, and it isn’t just for the X Hose either, it will work with any garden hose with a click connector.
- 8-speed Spray Nozzle specially designed for the XHose. Connects to any standard garden hose.
