Carrying out a pre-wash on a car is really a necessary step. The reason for this is that it will prevent you marring or scratching the paint when a wash mitt comes into contact with it.

Generally speaking, a pre-wash is carried out by using a foam cannon on a pressure washer. However, it’s the case for many that they do not have access to a pressure washer. A great alternative is to use a foam sprayer instead. In this review, I’ll be taking a look at the IK Foam Pro 2 and go over my thoughts on it.

IK Foam Pro 2 Build Quality

The IK Foam Pro 2 is extremely well built. Unfortunately, I’m a bit of a dropper and as such during my time using it I’ve dropped it on more than one occasion. Despite that, it hasn’t damaged the unit, apart from some minor scratches. It’s made of high quality plastics which mean that should you drop it, there should be no issues to the functioning of it.

In addition to this, it also has a wide base which makes it a lot harder to topple over. Even the handle of the IK Foam Pro 2 feels really strong and sturdy in my giant hands, and at no point did I think I was going to break it, even with my kung fu grip!

Ease of Use

The system really is easy to use. Once you’ve worked out your dilution ratio (based on the product you’re using), it’s really the case of just adding the product and filling up the rest with water. One point to note though is that you should only fill it up with water to the top of the fill line.

The reason for this is that air needs to be added into the system to generate the foam. If water is added right up to the brim of the tank, it is impossible to add any additional air to it.

It takes between 20 to 30 pumps of the handle to get enough pressure in the system. This will produce enough foam to cover one panel on the car, or a wheel and the wheel arch. The nozzle at the end of the IK Foam Pro 2 can also be adjusted to a wide or narrow.

A great feature of the IK Foam Pro 2 is that there is also a lock button on the trigger. This will prevent any accidental release of the foam.

Wet, dry or mixed foam

Depending on the application that you’re using the IK Foam Pro 2 for, it will dictate the kind of foam you’re using. There are three foam attachments in the kit; orange, green and grey. The orange attachment is used to give a wet foam, such as when you want to foam the exterior of a car. The green attachment is used for a dry foam, such as when cleaning fabrics and interiors. The grey attachment is to get a mix between the wet and the dry foam.

All three really do a great job at delivering the correct type of foam from the unit. I have on occasion used the green attachment to

A True Replacement For a Snow Foam Lance?

Let’s not beat around the bush here, if you put a snow foam lance and the IK Foam Pro 2 together side by side, the snow foam lance will undoubtedly produce a fair result. However, there is also the huge cost implication in needing a pressure washer for the foam lance.

There’s also the issue of the amount of time it takes to set up a pressure washer as opposed to getting out the IK Foam Pro 2. Often it’s the case that a pre wash is needed, but not to the extent of going the full hog of the foam lance. This really makes the IK Foam Pro 2 a perfect alternative. As mentioned above, it’s also great for those that don’t have access to a pressure washer at all.

Likewise, I now use my unit to saturate the wheels, and clean them that way. This is opposed to having a wheel bucket with soap in it. The water gets filthy really quickly, so after you’ve cleaned one wheel, dirty water is going onto the car. If anything, using the IK Foam Pro 2 is more economical when it comes to cleaning wheels.

In my testing I’ve used Autoglym Pure Shampoo as well as Autoglym UHD shampoo in the IK Foam Pro 2 after giving the wheel a light misting with Custom Wheel Cleaner. This worked really well with cleaning the alloy wheels. Using Pure Shampoo or UHD Shampoo is also a great alternative to having a snow foam and it really does help to remove the dirt from the paint work as shown in this Instagram short video.
