Ava are fast becoming the go to name when it comes to pressure washers and accessories. In this review, I’ll be giving my in depth thoughts about the Go P40 and if it’s the pressure washer you should pick up.
How I Tested This
I got this in March 2024 and at the time of writing (October 2024) I have spent a significant amount of time using it to give a full and informed opinion on the unit.
Build Quality
One of the things that drew me to the Ava brand was the build quality of it. Upon opening up the box, it was clear that not only the Go P40 itself, but also the accessories (more on that below) are of extremely high quality. The unit is extremely sturdy and composes of a high quality plastic.
The power switch on it is also very strong, as is the hose connector for the water supply, as well as the high pressure hose. One thing to point out is that the hose for your water supply must not have any kind of water stop connector on it. This can damage the internal pump.
Included Accessories
Included in the box is a water filter which helps to keep any debris in the hose away from the pump. There is also a stubby gun included in the box. This feels really good in the hand, and unlike some stubby guns, doesn’t cause hand fatigue even during prolonged periods of time. One downside is that it doesn’t have a quick connect on it, but it’s a minimal amount of time swapping out attachments.
There are also two nozzles included in the box. The first nozzle is a combination one in that you can set it to 60 degrees (safe on car paint), or 20 degrees (not safe on car paint). You can also have it using a combination of both, but again, I wouldn’t recommend this on car paint.
The other nozzle is of the turbo variety. This cannot be used with the gun, and instead must be used with the telescopic lance.
The telescopic lance has an initial length of 63cm, but this can be extended to 98cm which really does help getting to the lower areas of the car without having to bend down. There is also a 6m high pressure hose in the box which is used to connect the stubby gun to the pressure washer.
Lastly, there is a premium snow foam lance included in the box. It is a bit smaller than the standalone premium lance that Ava provide, with the included version holding up to 600ml of product.
Performance
Much like the build quality of the pressure washer and accessories being brilliant, the performance is also superb.
The Go P40 has a maximum pressure of 120 bar which equates to 390l/hour. This should do the majority of those that are detailing their cars at home. I’ve found that using the 60 degree nozzle on both the gun and the lance is sufficient to take off a lot of the dirt and grime from the car before a snow foam is applied.
In the wheel arches, using the 20 degree nozzle is a great way to remove embedded dirt from the plastic in there, although I would always advise caution around any sensitive brake cables etc.
Likewise rinsing snow foam and car shampoo of the car is a breeze with the Go P40. I’m really impressed with how quickly it removes residue from the car, whilst at the same time doing it safely.
With respect to the snow foam lance, this is really a game changer. I’ve used it with a lot of different snow foams, my favourite being Polar Blast. Regardless of the snow foam used, it produces a nice, thick blanket of foam that does dwell on the car for a nice period of time to help break up the grime on it.
There are also 9 increments to choose from depending on how much water compared to snow foam mix you want to use. I’ve found that level 5 is the sweet spot for me, but if you’re needing an extremely thick foam, feel free to turn it up to number 9. I did that a few days ago and my postman was gobsmacked with how thick it was, as well as the power coming out of the pressure washer to blast the foam away.
Of course, if you’ve got a high quality wax on the car, you can get away with simply blasting off the road grime and dirt using the pressure washer on it’s own without having to use a snow foam or shampoo.
I’ve also tried it on dried in bird droppings that had been baked into the car whilst I was at work and the 60 degree nozzle blasted this right off of it and left a flawless finish.
With respect to the turbo nozzle, this should not be put anywhere near the car, as this will rip the paint right off of it. Instead, it is to be used on brick and patio work. I used it on some of my monoblock driveway and the difference was brilliant.
One thing I should also point out is that it isn’t overly noisy for such a small unit pumping out a lot of power, which is definitely a bonus.
If there’s one downside to the Go P40, it’s the length of the high pressure hose. It is 6 metres in length, which certainly isn’t small. However, you will need to move the unit around the car depending on how big it is. This isn’t exactly a hardship since it’s a fairly light device, but a longer high pressure hose would have been nice. On the other hand, you can buy extension hoses at various sizes depending on your needs.
Product Support
One of the things that made me want to get an Ava pressure washer was the fact that they offer a 10 year warranty. This is on the basis that you service it yourself (a kit and instructions are available for this) at the 5 year mark.
I had a small issue 3 months into having it in that I was having a wee bit of difficulty getting the high pressure hose into the pressure washer. I had emailed Ava support about this and heard back within 24 hours with the solution. It turns out that the silicone grease put onto the hose had rubbed off with the in and out and all that was needed was re-application of this. I would recommend that this is reapplied to both ends of the hose every month.
The support staff were very polite and efficient with this, and said that if this didn’t resolve the issue (it did), they would be on hand right away for further help. This is the kind of support that I look for when getting a new device, and it’s certainly backing up their already excellent reputation.
Value for Money
For just under £150, you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck with this kit. Unlike other vendors, everything you need (bar the mains hose) to wash your car is in the box. This is nothing that really requires an upgrade to get an excellent finish on the car. You can if you want upgrade the nozzle to a 40 degree one, but I’ve honestly not found the need for this, and I am extremely happy with the 60 degree nozzle.
I’m blown away with just how much quality you get for this low price point. The cleaning power from it is awesome, and it’s also a great looking piece of kit that doesn’t take up a lot of space. Definitely recommended.
- AVA builds products that are Made to last, and we are going against the "use it and toss it" ideology many other pressure washers brands follow today. With an AVA, you get performance for years to come.
