I’ve covered a few different waxes on the site. However, for those short of time, I’ve compiled this list to make it extremely easy to pick out the best car wax for your needs.

Autoglym Ultra High Definition Wax

Autoglym UHD Wax is a long standing favourite of mine, as highlighted in my comprehensive review.

Not only is it really easy to apply to the car, but it’s also extremely easy to buff of as well. It is hands down the easiest wax I’ve ever used. In addition to this, it also smells really good. This might seem like a strange plus point, but when you’re working with a coating for a car, the last thing you want is something that smells awful.

Time and again, I’ve been blown away with just how great the results are after using it. Even after several washes and a few months after application, it still makes the car look as good as new.  The water beading and sheeting is second to none, this is a seriously hydrophobic wax.

I’ve found that by carrying out the right prep work, and applying a thin layer of Super Resin Polish beforehand, and then applying a second coat of UHD that I can get just shy of 6 months from it. For a carnauba based wax, this is nothing short of exceptional. The paint work after application feels buttery smooth, and the second layer of wax really doesn’t take long at all to apply and buff off. On a Clio, I’m able to apply one coat of UHD in just under an hour which is no time at all.

It is a tad pricier than other waxes, but considering that it’s a joy to use, the longevity of it and the fact that you get a great applicator pad and microfibre buffing cloth, the cost is definitely worth it. It is available to buy on it’s own, or with the UHD kit which also comes with UHD Shampoo.

Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax

As the name would suggest, this is a liquid wax for those that prefer the quicker application of that over a conventional paste wax. In this version, there is also the presence of Si02, which means that there is a ceramic element to it.

Application is really easy as well. You can to this by applying a small amount to an applicator pad, either foam or microfibre. Unlike the Autoglym UHD Wax, you do not get an applicator or a microfibre buffing cloth with the wax.

I’ve found that a little wax goes a long way, and it’s buttery smooth going on and also coming off.

One thing that I really like about it is that it will not stain plastic trim. When I’m waxing a car, I very rarely get wax on the trim anyway. However, for those that want a durable wax and ae applying it in a hurry, they don’t need to worry about having any white wax residue on their trim is their a bit slap dash with the application.

As is the case with the UHD Wax, the hydrophobic properties is brilliant. In terms of longevity, on a single layer I got three months of protection and on a double layer I got 5 months of protection. This is a respectable period of time for any wax.

Soft 99 Fusso Coat  12 Month Wax

Soft 99 are a well known company from Japan that have an obscene amount of detailing products within their range. In the last few years, they changed the chemical structure slightly of their Fusso Coat wax, which some argued did impact the longevity of the product.

Soft 99 offer this in two variants, light and dark depending on the colour of your car. Having used the light version, I was extremely happy with the quality of the finish I got from it.

One thing I will point out though is that the included applicator pad in it is quite frankly rubbish. I really didn’t like it at all. You’d be better off investing in a quality pad and applying the wax that way.

In terms of application, it’s important to note that a very thin layer must be applied, otherwise it can be a bit of a pain to get back off of the car again.

However, when applied correctly, you’re left with an exceptionally glossy finish, and the beading you get from it is brilliant.

In terms of durability, this is where it really shines. Whilst I didn’t get the 12 months that was advertised, I did get 9 months out of it. In that regard, it lasts longer than the UHD Wax from Autoglym. However, the UHD Wax was a lot more satisfying and easy to apply. Plus the applicator and buffing towel with the UHD Wax is great.

If you want a great shine with long lasting results and don’t mind a bit of a back and forth when it comes to application and removal than the Fusso Coat 12 Month Wax is the one for you. The durability in the winter wasn’t as good, which is disappointing, but if you want a strong winter wax then read on…

Collinite 476S Wax

I’ve also covered Collinite 476S Wax previously on the site. Much like the UHD Wax, I’m really happy with Collinite 476S.

Not only is it very hydrophobic, but the gloss from it is brilliant as well. It was a tough call between this and the UHD Wax for the overall gloss of the waxes on this list.

The longevity is also between 4-6 months, so it’s on par with UHD Wax. Whilst it trails behind Fusso Coat, I’ve found that 476S Wax is the wax that you want to use in the winter. This is in terms of both applying it and acting as a layer of protection through the winter. It easily repels road salt and dirt like nothing I’ve seen before.

However, it is the most difficult to apply out of all of the waxes on this list. It does require a fair amount of buffing to remove. If you do apply to much of it, only a thin layer is needed on top of it to remove it.

Regardless, it’s an excellent wax and deserves its place on this list.
