A car polish is used to remove scratches and imperfections from the paintwork of the car.

The severity of the scratches and swirls on the paint work will determine what kind of polish is used. Of course, prevention is always better than cure, and in that respect, you should read up on how to prevent scratching and swirling the car in the first place. With that in mind, I’ll be giving my insight into the best car polishes.

Autoglym Super Resin Polish

Autoglym Super Resin Polish is one that has been on the market for over two decades now. During that time, it’s formula has been updated to ensure that it works with the latest paint technologies.

Applying Super Resin Polish is really easy, all it takes is a small blob of polish on an applicator pad of your choice (the best ones can be found here). Personally, when I’m using it, I opt for the Autoglym Perfect Polish Applicator. It’s easy to butterfly to ensure you get even coverage across the pad.

It’s important to note that with Super Resin Polish, less is definitely more. By applying it in a circular, overlapping motion in small sections, you’ll ensure that you get even coverage with it. It doesn’t take long at all to haze over. As long as you don’t apply it in direct sunlight either, it’s really easy to buff off with a high quality microfibre cloth.

The results of it are also really impressive. I used it on my first car that was black and had minor swirl marks in it. Super Resin Polish does have a minor level of cut to it, but it also has fillers in it as well. This means that any scratches that it can’t remove, it will fill them instead.

It also gives a great level of depth back to the paint work. The fillers will on average, last up to 8 weeks before you need to re-apply it. However, it can also be sealed in for longer by using a high quality wax such as UHD Wax.

Super Resin Polish comes in a variety of options. This includes various bottle sizes, as well as a 500ml bottle, along with the perfect polish applicator and a high quality cloth.

For minor imperfections and overall gloss enhancement (as well as ease of use) this is the one for you.

Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Polish & Wax

As expected, Turtle Wax would be on this list with their Hybrid Solutions range.

What I really like about their Ceramic Polish & Wax is that it can be applied by both hand application, but also by using a Dual Action Polisher.

When using it by hand, it will help to permanently remove up to moderate paint imperfections, but it does take a bit of work to get there. If you go slow and steady and persevere, the abrasives in the polish will do the trick, though.

When using it with a DA polisher, it really is a great way to quickly remove paint imperfections and leave your car with a mirror shine finish.

The wax element is also very good on it, and I managed to get 3 months of protection. This is actually very impressive since it isn’t developed solely as a wax.

After the 3 months are up and you want to apply it again to protect the car, I would recommend two small blobs on a pad and applied thinly across the paintwork with little to pressure. This will leave your car protected, without it cutting the paint any further.

The water repellencey really is something else after you’ve used this on the car. Water and dirt want to get off the paintwork as quickly as possible. It also makes cleaning the car very easy.

Meguiar’s Ultimate Car Polish Pre-Waxing Glaze

Meguiar’s have been innovating paint correction for years, and this is one of their flagship products.

As the name suggests, it’s a polish as well as a glaze (not unlike the Autoglym Super Resin Polish). Due to the microabbrasives in it, it is possible to remove light scratches, scuffs and swirls from the paint work. Anything that it cannot remove will instead be filled in.

What I like about the Ultimate Car Polish is that it can also be applied by hand, and also by a DA polisher. It should be noted that when applying by hand, I found it more difficult to work in and remove when compared to the Autoglym and Turtle Wax offerings mentioned above. However, after carrying out the work, the paint looked brilliant and it had a fantastic pop to it as well.

When testing it, it was applied to a gun metal grey paintjob. The gloss on it was phenomenal and it looked as though the car had been polished by a professional.

By volume, it’s the most expensive offering on this list, but if you’ve got the time and determination to use it, it’ll do a great job. However, if the imperfections are larger, then you will need to use a DA polisher instead, using it by hand won’t give the results you’re looking for.

It is also recommended that a wax is applied after use in order to lock in the fillers that are included in this polish.
