Being one of the oldest polishes on the market, Autoglym Super Resin Polish is a staple of any driveway detailers repertoire. Over the years it has went through a few formulation changes and thankfully, each change has been for the better.
How to apply Autoglym Super Resin Polish
The application of Autoglym Super Resin Polish is pretty straightforward. It’s extremely important to follow the instructions on the back of the bottle; don’t apply in sunlight, and don’t over apply. In my haste when I picked up my first bottle years ago, I neglected to follow these rules and it was pretty tricky to buff off of the car. I would always recommend that the panels are as cool as possible. The ideal way to ensure that this is the case on sunny days is to rinse down the car and dry it immediately before applying the polish.
There’s a few ways it can be applied to the car. The first is to use a microfibre applicator pad, or even a plush cloth. The second is to use a foam pad. Autoglym actually make a foam pad (called the perfect polish applicator). It has contours on it to make it easy to get into the more intricate areas of the body work.
Regardless of the applicator that you choose, after applying a small amount of it to the pad, I like to dab it onto the paintwork in small, predetermined sections. For example, the top half of a door, half the bonnet (hood if you’re outwith the UK) etc.
After this, it’s simply the case of applying a light pressure and moving the pad in circular motions to get complete and even coverage before finishing off in a straight line for the final pass.
The amount of time that you need to wait for it to cure is dependent on the temperature at the time of application. If it’s a scorching hot day, I wouldn’t even recommend doing it, unless you’re in the shade. Like wise, if it’s pretty cold, I’d hang fire on applying it until it’s warmer.
Generally speaking though, after the polish has dried to a haze and if you can run your finger through it and remove it cleanly then it’s time to buff it off.
One thing that needs to be considered though is if you get this onto any trim pieces then it will stain them. There are a few ways to remove the staining. The first is to use Autoglym Fast Glass. The other option is to get a rubber (eraser for those not in the UK) and literally rub away at the polish residue until it’s gone as shown in this video. A magic eraser will also work, but these can be highly abrasive and will over time damage the trim.
The other alternative is to use painters tape instead to mask off the area before starting any polishing.
One question that I feel is also important to address is if Autoglym Super Resin Polish can be used on glass. The answer to this is no. It is not designed to be applied to glass. If it is the case that you would like to make your glass hydrophobic, then the best recommendation is to use Gtechniq G1 Glass Sealant.

It’s tough to say the level of “correction” that you’ll receive when using Autoglym Super Resin Polish since this really is dependent on the severity of scratches and swirls on the paint work. It’s certainly the case that when using this polish it will help to improve the colour clarity of the paintwork. This is especially true on cars which have been neglected over the years, namely on red and black paint.
Super Resin Polish can be layered as well. From prior experience, I’ve concluded that a maximum of 3 layers of it brings out the optimum level of swirl and scratch hiding. This was on bonnet that had been marred up thanks to some over keen clay bar user. The only way to truly fix it was to carry out paint correction, but it did cover up a large number of these swirls.
In addition to this, there is a water beading effect as well when using Super Resin Polish which
How Long Does Autoglym Super Resin Polish Last?
Presuming that the car is well maintained with Autoglym shampoo, and an additional layer is not applied after each wash, then you can expect it to last for roughly six weeks.
Some factors which can reduce this longevity is the conditions in which the car is kept during the day i.e. is exposed to a large degree of fallout as well as what the weather conditions are like as well. Generally speaking, once the old swirls start appearing again, it’s time to re-apply Super Resin Polish.
In order to ‘lock in’ the filling properties and therefore the reduction in visibility of the scratches and swirls on the paintwork, there are a few options. The first is to use Extra Gloss Protection from Autoglym. This can take up to an hour to cure, but it does add in a high level of gloss to the paintwork as well as lasting for up to six months.
The other option is to use Autoglym UHD Wax. This is much quicker to apply than Extra Gloss Protection, but it is more expensive than EGP.
Autoglym Super Resin Polish is available on it’s own, or as part of a kit which also comes with a perfect polish applicator and microfibre buffing cloth.

Generally speaking, it’s better value for money to buy the polish and the applicators separately, but sometimes there’s a really good sale on the all in one kit so I’ve included that here as well.
It should also be noted that the highly popular Soft 99 Fusso Coat wax cannot be used with Autoglym Super Resin Polish. It will rapidly degrade the polish with the PTFE that’s in the wax.

Summary
Autoglym Super Resin Polish really is a great way to cover up minor scratches and swirls. In addition to this, it can improve the overall clarity of neglected paintwork. Top it with Extra Gloss Protection or UHD Wax to really make the paint pop
