Iron fallout removers are a must when it comes to giving your car a proper clean. Whilst a high quality shampoo will remove the dirt and grime, further work is needed to remove the embedded iron contaminants that are on your car.

This iron fallout comes from the atmosphere, as well as coming off of the brakes pads every time you apply the brakes on the car.

Iron fallout removers come in varying strengths and also prices. The age old question is “what is the best iron fallout remover?” In order to make things as streamlined as possible, I have listed the best ones currently available on the market.

I have personally purchased and tested these myself to ensure that you get the correct information and let you purchase the one that you like the sound of the most. Regardless of the iron fallout remover used, I always wash the car first using a high quality shampoo and remove as much surface waters as possible. I then apply the fallout remover, rinse it off and give the car another quick wash. This is to ensure that any dislodged iron particles have been fully removed from the paintwork.

Autoglym Magma

Autoglym Magma is a fast acting and very powerful iron fallout remover. However, what is important to note about it is the fact that it is also pH neutral. The benefit of this is that that it will not strip any last stage protection projects that you have on the car.

Iron fallout removers can be known for having a really bad smell to them. However, the smell from Magma isn’t too bad actually.

Not only is it great at removing iron from the car, but it can also be used to remove it from the wheels as well. There are surfactants in it which means that it foams up well and means that you can use this with even a just a car shampoo to clean the wheels.

The colour bleeding technology makes the iron fallout turn a deep purple, so it’s easy to see where the iron contamination is. It also rinses off extremely easily. One thing to note though is that it should not be allowed to dry in on the paintwork or on the glass. If it does, apply a few more squirts of it and then rinse off as quickly as possible.

AM Details Iron Fallout Remover

AM Details have a lot of excellent products in their range, and this iron fallout remover is no exception to the rule.

It goes onto the paint and the wheels more like a gel as opposed to a liquid that you get with Magma. This gives it a slightly longer dwell time. One of the stand out parts of the product is that it doesn’t have a horrible smell to it. I don’t know how they’ve done it, but the usual iron fallout remover smell is non existent with this product.

In terms of performance, I would say that it is just about as good as Magma listed above. It makes short work of baked in iron, although some more heavily contaminated areas will need further applications. I also didn’t notice any degradation to the wax I had on my car when using this product.

It really does work well in removing even the toughest iron particles, especially when used on alloy wheels.

Gtechniq W6 Iron Fallout Remover

I’ve looked at a lot of Gtechniq products on this site and I couldn’t not include W6 on this list. Off the bat, it does have a bit of a strange smell to it, but not so much that it would stop you from using it.

It starts to work pretty quickly, and I’ve only ever needed to apply it once in order to remove all of the iron particles from my pain and wheels. It gives a satisfying deep purple tint and it’s definitely a head turner whenever anyone walks by.

What I really like about it as well as that it has been developed with the variety of Gtechniq protection products that are available to ensure that it won’t cause degradation. Since they are so diverse, it means that even on cars with protection from other brands, W6 won’t strip it from your paint work. From the rigoourous testing I put it through, it did not impact the wax I had on the car at all.

Another plus point is that Gtechniq offer it in different sized bottles based on your needs and budget.

Bilt Hamber Korrosol

Korrosol is a really powerful iron fallout remover from the good folks over at Bilt Hamber.

I would say that it’s the fastest acting remover on this list, and it’ll light up your car like a Christmas tree, too. It’s also pH balanced, which again means that it won’t degrade any coatings that you have on your car. It always leaves a smooth finish, and I’ve never had to re-apply a second coating to remove any remaining iron particles.

There are two downsides to the product, though. The first is that per 500ml, it is the most expensive item on this list. The second is that it has the least pleasant smell out of all the removers on this page, so much so that I would wear a mask when using this one.

However, if you want to get rid of iron from your car in the quickest time frame, this is the one to go for.
