Leather Cleaner from Autoglym is a surfactant that is specifically designed for car leather, such as the seats, steering wheel and also gear stick.

I’ve previously covered it in my run down of the best car leather cleaners. However, I thought it would be for the best to give it it’s own dedicated review as well.

How To Use

As with any kind of interior cleaning, it’s important to make sure that any debris is removed before hand with a thorough vacuuming.

Once that’s been done, you can start to apply Leather Cleaner. If you’re cleaning the seats, this can be applied directly to it. It should be noted that less is more and you only need to use this sparingly.

If you’re cleaning a steering wheel or a gear stick, my recommendation is to apply Leather Cleaner to a soft detailing brush and apply it to the area that way instead.

Regardless of how it’s initially applied, a soft detailing brush can be used to work the cleaner into the seats/steering wheel/gear stick. If you’d prefer to work it in using a soft microfibre cloth, this would also work well.

Minimal pressure should be used when cleaning, and after doing so, a damp cloth, or Hi Tech Aqua Dry can be used to remove the dirt from the areas that have been cleaned. After doing this, it’s as simple as letting the area dry naturally. I would recommend though that Leather Care Balm as added to the cleaned area afterwards. It acts as a protective coating for the leather.

Results

I’ve used this on various different kinds of car leather, and each time I’ve done so it has brought the leather back to its natural, matt finish. One thing I especially hate to see is a shiny steering wheel. I used this on a steering wheel that hadn’t been cleaned in over a year (not my car). The first time using this, it removed a lot of the ingrained grime. I did go over it once more to remove the rest of it. This took no more than 15 minutes.

It also left the leather feeling smooth and clean, which is exactly what you want.

This is a powerful cleaner, that will reduce the amount of time needed to clean the leather on your car. An added bonus is that it is pH neutral which means that it won’t cause any damage to leather. Special care should always be taken however with severely neglected leather. Going in too hard too quickly with any kind of damaged leather can result in further damage.

Taking your time with Autoglym Leather Cleaner is the perfect way to make sure you get a safe, and effective clean.

Value For Money

A bottle of Leather Cleaner is just under £9. Considering that you hardly need to use any of it to carry out a great clean shouldn’t be overlooked. That on it’s own makes the price of it highly desirable.

However, as part of the cleaning process, I would recommend that you use an Hi Tech Aqua Dry which can run for another £8. Another recommendation is that after using Leather Cleaner is that you apply Leather Care Balm to the surface to make it more supple and also protect it.

That will set you back another £9 (roughly). At this point, you’re looking at £27. In that respect, you could get the complete leather care kit which includes the Leather Cleaner, Leather Care Balm, Hi Tech Aqua Dry and Perfect Polish Applicator. If you had buy them all separately, it could run to £36 or so, but if you bought it in the kit it would be just over £25.

In my opinion, the much better option is to buy the kit outright as you’ll save money in the long haul.
